Duvall Sex Scandal Update

Updating the previous post, here is the statement from Assemblyman Mike Duvall about his resignation (thank you Dr Throttling for pointing it out). This from the “Duvall for Assembly” website:

Assemblyman Duvall Denies Reports that he Had Affair

“I want to make it clear that my decision to resign is in no way an admission that I had an affair or affairs. My offense was engaging in inappropriate story-telling and I regret my language and choice of words. The resulting media coverage was proving to be an unneeded distraction to my colleagues and I resigned in the hope that my decision would allow them to return to the business of the state.”

If you read it closely, there is a disconnect between the title and the contents of the press release. In fact, Duvall is not denying the affair or affairs as is now being widely reported (and as I stated in the earlier post), he is merely stating that his resignation cannot be read as an admission of guilt. This is because he is not resigning for having an affair, but because he got caught talking about the affair.

Good luck with that, Mike.

  1. So he’s claiming that he was caught lying about having the affair(s).

Is this worse than being caught lying about not having an affair?

I wonder if he thought Clinton should be impeached for lying… he probably did.

If we take his press release literally, and he is guilty of a lie about a non-happening, is that as bad as lying about an actual happening?

    • No, I disagree, he’s not saying he has been caught lying about having an affair.

He’s saying that “the decision to resign is no way an admission…”. Note the way that this is expressed. If he was making the affair up, he could have outright said that he was making it up. But he doesn’t.

What he wants the world to recognise is that he’s not resigning because he had an affair (which he neither confirms nor denies) but is resigning because he talked about it.

What I think has happened is that someone at the Duvall website has inserted a misleading headline above the press release because (1) they have misinterpreted what he is saying or (2) deliberately tried to shape viewer interpretation of the release

      • “Deliberately tried to shape viewer interpretation”
The couldn’t shape it in any way other than this is a amateurish, ham-fisted, bungling attempt to scuttle into obscurity and try to retain a shred of dignity.

It just makes him look silly…

But isn’t this standard operating procedure in the States when someone is caught bang to rights? Just give some rambling warble and vague denial thing until the glare of media attention is off and then pretend it didn’t actually happen?

When was the last time someone held their hand up and said, “Yes…I did it.”

Well, Sanford maybe… but that was just wierd.

  2. Wrongful inactions, Cover ups, False denial of bad politicians, bad cops, bad persons, false pastors, false priests are much too common but there is still some justice being carried out

    The unfortunate facts of life
