Three minute ad for 50th anniversary of Olympus PEN Camera

I’m not really a fan of those blog sites that just post up myriad, pretty YouTube clips that they’ve discovered. Sometimes, however, you do come across something that is pretty special. The first time I watched this commercial, I immediately assumed that it was all created with computer/digital special effects. But, no. According to the producers, it’s  done with old school stop motion, the same technique employed to animate the monsters in the original King Kong:

This is the PEN Story in stop motion. We shot 60.000 pictures, developed 9.600 prints and shot over 1.800 pictures again. No post production!

Worderful blend of art, technology, and music. Genius.
